On November,25th, 2022, developed by LGAA (Liaoning General Aviation Academy) and FAW Group, together developed and manufactured by Tianjin Internal Combustion Engine Research Institute, the first testbed ignition test of hydrogen-fueled internal combustion aero-engine was successfully completed in the State Key Laboratory of Engines (Tianjin University). The successful ignition test of the hydrogen-fueled Internal Combustion aero-engine system laid a solid basis for the next-steptesting of the final assembly and the later first flight.

To ensure the smooth implementation of the test, LAGG, FAW Group, Tianjin University,Shanghai UnitedAutomotive Electric jointly formed a test team and spent more than twenty days and nights finishing a series of preparatory work such as the construction of onsite testbed , pipeline installment, wiring harness modification and the joint modulation of ECU control system, and finally completed its first successful ignition test. Thecombustion lasted 15 seconds and all indicators of the engine worked properly. The first ignition test was undergone smoothly and satisfactorily according to the plan. The team members willfurther carry out such tests as hydrogen-fueled internal combustion engine performance calibration.

The four-seater hydrogen internal combustion aircraft is a kind of aircraft that uses hydrogen internal combustion engine to directly burn hydrogen as power, which has the characteristics of no pollution, low cost, and high thermal efficiency. Based on the successful development and completion of airworthiness certification of Rhyxeon series electric aircrafts, LGAA took the lead in demonstrating the application of hydrogen-fueled internal combustion engine in aviation in January 2021 under the background of proposing " zero carbon" goal and promoting green development in China. LGAA’s technical team has conducted a series of demonstration studies on the feasibility of using hydrogen internal combustion engine as the aviation power of the four-seater aircraft, including the lightweight of body structure, the design of hydrogen supply system, the development of aircraft engine reducer and so on. At the same time, LGAA is organizing the demonstration work of converting 560KW heavy oil aviation engine into a hydrogen-fueled aviation internal combustion engine.
